Being in the business now for over a decade we have come to realize the many joys and perks that come with our job. One of our favourite perks of planning weddings is having the opportunity to be referred to brides and grooms from our previous clients. Such was the case with Kristine, sister of Marcelo, one of our clients from 2015 who wed his beautiful bride Alex in the backyard of his family home.
It wasn’t hard for me to remember this family and their gorgeous home located in Kleinburg, complete with a built in gazebo bar and gigantic lilac tree out front. When Kristine approached me to help design and coordinate her nuptials to Daniel, I was all too enthusiastic.
Kristine and Daniel decided to do it a little differently and stray away from the backyard fiesta. Instead they decided to take their celebration to the nearby Doctor’s House, which we were NOT crying about! The Great Hall possess panoramic windows and a view of soaring trees that lit up at night. This venue was truly the perfect backdrop for their soft, vintage design.
Kristine had a specific vision of how she wanted the entire hall to look. She had visions of the outdoor receiving area to the floor decal, to the oversized marquee lights, to even the piano and mantle pieces! We had the privilege of providing all the centrepieces, harvest tables and arch florals, along with the bouquets and personal flowers, for this occasion.
There was also a funny behind the scenes story! (Well, funny NOW…. maybe not at the time!)
Kristine and Daniel’s wedding just so happened to fall on the weekend that Hurricane Irma decided to grace the world with her presence - which meant that a lot of our special-ordered imported florals were not going to make it in the time for the festivities as the Miami port was evacuated! Thankfully, a couple phone calls from Barbados (where I was doing a work familiarization tour) and some back and forth conversations with knowledgeable suppliers later, and all was well. The team pulled together a vintage look that everyone was happy about and we breathed a sigh of relief, all while praying that our Miami partners were doing alright.
Nevertheless, we are so thrilled about how this wedding got pulled together, hurricanes aside, with the help of an amazing team and lots of experience in the industry. (We can now check off “dodging a hurricane” on our CV
Thank you to the staff of the Doctor’s House, and especially our floral and decor team for the hard work. A big shout out to David Vy Photography and MPSG Weddings for the snaps!
