I'm unsure if this a good or bad thing, but I have a level of natural empathy that makes me feel more than the average person. Whether it's a positive or negative experience, whether it's a situation involving myself or someone I love, or even strangers. I end up just feeling for them, with them, alongside them.
When I met Brigette and John, I knew that they were also passionate like myself and it was an instant match. Two souls that grew up only villages apart in the Philippines before meeting through family friends in Canada..... 27 years ago. Young lovers who grew up in faith together. And then, they were finally ready to take that plunge and get married.
They already knew that it was important for them to get married in the church of their Christian faith, but otherwise, they were happy to let me suggest some of my favourite vendors that matched their personalities. And so, I got to flex my "vendor matching" muscle, especially when it came to music, venue, and beauty. My MO was to pair these two lovely human beings with vendors that emulated much of the same vibes - classic, honest, and authentic.
It was the hottest day in July (at least I thought so), but in the end, everything looked like it was out of a dream. The groom was oozing with swagger. The bride was stunning in her long-sleeved lace ballgown (despite my concerns that she was going to overheat).
True to their personalities, they kept everything low-key but fun - from the pit stop to Five Guys before heading to the church, to the buttery crooning of Brent Miller when 130 of their family and friends entered the ballroom at Whistle Bear Golf Club to begin the evening festivities. There were games that made everyone jump from their seats with cheers and spirited competition. There were slow dances that made everyone, including myself, Brent, and Meghan (my assistant), tear up from the sheer sentimentality of it all.
This was one of those weddings where I felt all the feels. And they didn't need anything over the top to achieve that. In fact, the reception ended promptly at 10:30/11 pm, and yet, the amount of emotion and joy made it feel like it was a weeklong celebration.
Thanks to these two lovely souls, who are now great friends, for allowing us to be a part of something so special. And to Peter B Photography and AM Motion for capturing every moment. #JohnBridgedtheGap #27yearsinthemaking
