Featured Couple: Jaslyn + Karandeep

In case you didn't know, we LOVE fusion weddings. There's just something about honouring two traditions, two cultures, and two families that gives me all the feels.

So when Jaslyn and Karandeep approached me to plan their multicultural, multi-day wedding, I was giddy. Granted, it did lean more to the South Asian side as Karandeep was Sikh Punjabi and Jaslyn was half of the same culture. But she was also half Filipino, which gave us the opportunity to explore how to incorporate that heritage.

Having planned many a South Asian and many a Filipino wedding, I was thrilled to be able to help design the traditional Sikh ceremony at Karandeep's local gurdwara, followed by a civil ceremony the next day where the Filipino marriage customs were performed.

The wedding week kicked off with traditional pre-wedding events - an outdoor jago and mehendi celebrations to commemorate the start of the festivities. Then on the morning of the Sikh ceremony, Karandeep rolled into the driveway of the gurdwara in his own version of a "horse" (a Mustang), with colourful smoke bombs trailing behind. The bride was ethereal in her customized burgundy velvet lehenga, courtesy of Chandan Fashion, and perfectly done Indian bridal makeup by Sitara Beauty.

After the solemn and meaningful ceremony, the bride and groom drove off in their luxury car and met with the photographers at Adamson Estate for photos, before heading back to the bride's house for the traditional "doli" or official departure of the bride from her home.

The next day, the bride and her ladies drove up to Innisfil to begin getting ready at the Belcroft Estate, the gorgeous of their western ceremony and reception, while Karandeep headed to Barrie to check into their hotel and meet up with his boys. Once his bright orange pagh (turban) was perfectly wrapped, Karandeep met his other half at Belcroft where they had a quick first look and a few shots with their bridal party before getting ready for the ceremony.

Almost 180 guests came to celebrate this ultra-fit couple (they are both aspiring body-builders!) as they said their vows (again) under an arbour on a very warm and sunny day, in a ceremony that was officiated symbolically by Jaslyn's older brother, Jaspal, and featured a special ringbearer - Karandeep's furry partner-in-crime, Boogie.

Finally, after the ceremony, the guests were ushered into adjacent tent (for some sun reprieve!) where they enjoyed canapes, cocktails, dinner, some surprise performances, and treated to an Indian street food truck as they danced the night away.

All in all - the entire event was infused with elements that reflected every part of their personality and everything they loved. And that, to me, was the ultimate success. Thank you to Jas and KD for allowing me to be a part of their day!
